Internet Databases was founded on May 3, 1999 by Barry Welch. Barry is a graduate of The University of Virgina and has over 20 years experience in computer programming and database design. More than half of his career has been within the furniture industry.
In the spring of 1999, Barry had the opportunity to start his own company. He left his job as Director of Information Systems for Pulaski Furniture and started Internet Databases with a six month contract with the Army. Six years later Internet Databases had grown to 4 employees and was straddling both government work and the furniture industry.
By this time Internet Databases had developed several large custom web applications for some well respected manufacturers within the furniture industry. These applications allowed manufacturers to share information between sales reps, customer service and dealers. Typical functions include order processing, product inventory and sales analysis reporting.
In the winter of 2005 the army contract ended and Internet Databases made the decision to use this time and their experience to create a service for furniture manufacturers who were not interested in creating a custom application (not that there's anything wrong with that!).
FurnishWEB was officially launched at the January 2006 Las Vegas Market. Our first year was very encouraging. We added many new clients and remain thrilled with the feedback we receive from them (Almost all of our new business has been the result of happy client referrals!)
While we are still a government approved contractor with the GSA, and we continue to create custom web applications, we are most excited about the opportunity that exists for FurnishWEB. The furniture industry is a rapidly changing environment and web technology is an invaluable tool - both to navigate those changes and to grow with them.
